Post DSO/Analog Switch Off Workaround

blue After a lot of effort I've a workaround to allow succesful timer recordings , however live viewing or playback of recorded programs while in this mode is not guaranteed.

details are here

DSO problem experiments

blue
Not much to report. Experimenting with a 1.7.71 version pace twin in Cheltenham this is post DSO or post analog switch off.

It appears if TV2 is on Tuner A and TV1 is on Tuner B then Tuner B locks up.

With TV1 on BBC1 (channel 1) Tuner B then signal strength on this tuner rises to 94% from 82%
With TV2 on E4+1 (channel 29) Tuner A then signal strength on this tuner remains at 82%

The recording works - you get the blue pace logo on the main screen. You can chase play the recording. Once tuner B has locked up, you have to power off pace (as in press standby when not recording) to regain control.

With TV1 on ITV2+1 (Channel 27) Tuner B then signal strength sits around 86%
With TV2 on BBC2 (Channel 2) Tuner A then signal strength sits at 94%

ITV2+1 is transmitted on transmission channel 21
BBC2 is transmitted on transmission channel 28

Again the recording works and the blue pace logo is on the main screen (TV1). Again chase play of the recording works. Tuner B has again locked up, power off as above resolves.

I was under the impression one of the previous firmware updates changed the paces operatation so that it meant that if both outputs were on the same transmission channel then only one tuner was used, however this doesn't appear to be the case with 1.7.71 in all cir*****stances. So occasionally when the two tuners are on the same transmission channel(mux) and a recording is in progress then again there is interaction between the two tuners causing picture breakup.

When Tuner B has locked up, if you go into guide occasionally it will completely change the order of the channels in the guide and some will be missing, implying some sort of corruption in memory, overwriting perhaps.

Anyway the experiments will continue.

I've a vague recollection that the ITV3 power on problem (poison mux) only occured when one particular tuner was on channel 3 on the main TV1 output on power up. However I can't remember which one. So the two problems may in fact be marginally connected.

EPG Workaround confirmed - recording failure problem

blue Hi

I can confirm that the EPG populating workaround previously indicated works in the Cheltenham area where the analog has been turned off, they are currently in phase 1 of the changeover, everyone is to retune this coming wednesday (20th April 2011), so I'll keep you posted on this in the next few days.

Full post for warkaround here by user "cpns" - http://www.avforums.com/forums/pvrs-vcrs/1009890-pace-twin-decoder-analogue-switch-off.html#14

I can also confirm that recordings cut out 5 or 10 minutes into the program, no specific interval to this, the screen apparently goes wierd. I dont' have a workaround for this yet , however if I find one or hear of one, I'll let you know.

EPG Not populated after DSO - possible fix

blue Hi

According to a post here on avforums.

The EPG (electronic program guide)is not populating once the DSO (Digital Switch Over/Analog turn off)occurs as there is more than 100 channels in the EPG, the paces software was apparently only designed to accomodate up to a max 99 channels in the EPG. The workaround is to make a favourites list containing less than 99 channels, which will apparently then populate.

EPG Not Populated after DSO and failure to record

blue There are reports that some owners are suggesting that after the DSO in their area (Analog Switch off) and following the necessary retune the EPG is showing as empty and not being populated, programs are being received and the now and next is working.

Also reports are coming in that recordings are not working, with recordings of 0 seconds appearing in the library.

Suggestions are that there may be some incompatibility between the 2K and 8K broadcast formats, also the increased signal strength following DSO may also have a bearing.

We await confirmation of this.

Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately I'm in an area which will be one of the last to switch over, so I'm unable to perform any tests in relation to this.

Pace release workaround for power on problem

blue
PACE TWIN PVR SUPPORT

We have received reports over the last few days where some older Pace Twin boxes have ?stuck? in standby and simply display the clock.

If your box is stuck and is unresponsive to the remote control or front panel buttons, please try the following steps:

Unplug the mains and aerial cables from the Twin box.

Plug in the mains cable only. The box will go through the boot-up process and display 4 dashes (- - - -)

Switch the box out of standby by pressing the on/off key on the front panel. The 4 dashes should then change to a number.

Press the arrow down key until the number 1 is displayed on the front panel.

Plug in the aerial cable.

If the problem is recurring, we suggest ensuring the box is on the BBC1 channel before switching to standby or removing the power from the box.

Please contact customer.service@pace.com for further assistance if required.

Website off line

blue
This Site is going off air for approx 2 weeks it should reappear by the 14th February 2010.

It would appear that a utility became publicly available from an area of the site,
which wasn't intended for public consumption, for some reason this area became available.

The utility turns out to be copyright of Pace plc.
and therefore by making it publicly available I was Infringing their Copyright.

As a result and to avoid prosecution, I have naturally had to remove this utility and in addition sign a declaration
that I won't make this utility available or any other items that are copyright of Pace plc.

To ensure I am in full compliance with this declaration this site is being taken off line
so I can go through it with a fine tooth comb and ensure this doesn't happen again.

I wish to apologise to the users of this site for any inconvenience caused including Pace plc.

If you are having problems turning on your pace twin freeview receiver please see a copy of the fix issued by pace here

Thankyou

Copyright Violation

blue Today I received a letter and email from pace's legal representative's asking me to remove a utility which infringes their copyright. I have therefore as expected complied. The interesting thing is that no where on this sites menu system is a link to the download section, where this inappropriate material was accessible from, yet google appears to have cataloged ares of my site which aren't for public consumption. Makes me wonder what other stuff is kicking around that I've forgotten about, or that i'm not aware is there.
